Greece Travel Diary: Athens & Santorini

Greece Travel Diary: Athens & Santorini

Greece has always been a dream destination of mine, literally I think I have dreamed about it before.. or at least pinned 100 repins of white and blue buildings on Pinterest. So  when my mom told me we were going there this Summer I got so excited!!

We flew into Athens and spent a couple days there and then sailed to Santorini and spent a day there before heading down the coast of Italy.

Athens

We looked like dorky tourists (which let’s face it, we were) as we rode around to each food stop but that made it funny. Some of my fav. foods we stopped to try were Saganaki, fried cheese w/ lemon (top left), Traditional Greek Yogurt (top right), Koulouria, a greek bread (bottom left), and Moussaka, a layer eggplant dish (bottom right). The company we toured through is linked HERE. Great service, so much fun!

The architecture was really amazing once we got in. I love the history, it’s so crazy how innovative people were back in the day! My only tip for tourists hoping to see this attraction is to go in the morning!!! The earlier the better, the less hot it will be as it is all in full sun and the less crowded. But I 10/10 recommend.

<= The truth behind a risky photo… we got your back brother 😉

The rest of our time in Athens we spent shopping along the streets, eating more good food, laying out by the pool and just enjoying ourselves.

Santorini

Screen Shot 2017-08-02 at 6.33.16 PM.pngSantorini probably looks the most like the typical Greece you picture in your head. The white buildings all along the cliffside with blue accents and roofs.

We visited a few places in Santorini, starting off with a small but beautiful village called “Megalochori”. The village was really quiet and traditional, not touristy at all. We spent a couple hours there just taking pictures and exploring the winding streets.

We actually happened to be there on a Sunday so we got to hear a traditional Greek Orthodox church service going on which was unique.Screen Shot 2017-08-02 at 6.32.57 PM.png

The next place we went to was Black Sandy Beach in Perissa, a beach town on the Southern end of the island. This area was a little touristy but really nice. We just rented beach chairs and umbrellas and ordered lunch/ drinks out on the beach.

Screen Shot 2017-08-02 at 6.48.19 PM.pngThe water was cold but we got in for a little.. well some of us did (I was too cold, so just the toes haha). But anyways, so fun and the sand was really black! Screen Shot 2017-08-02 at 6.31.57 PM.png

After we finished up at the beach we took about an hour long bus ride to our final Santorini destination, Oia (pronounced “ee-a”). This is probably the most photographed and most touristy destination in Santorini. It was beautiful but pretty crowded being the middle of the day. We took plenty of pictures and shopped around on the streets overlooking the water. The shopping here is great if you love shopping on vacation like me, but definitely a little over priced because it is a tourist destination. This was the Greece mental image come to life. Gorgeous!!!

We finished out our time on a high note! Overall Greece met my expectations and gave me my fill of Gyros & Feta.. just kidding! Can you ever really get enough of those? I definitely would re-visit if I got the opportunity to in the future!

Getting Back On Track: My Grocery List Guide

Hello everyone & welcome back to my blog!

And while it was fun, I definitely returned home a couple days ago feeling sluggish, not my best, and super excited to get back to a regular, more healthy lifestyle of eating.
